A heartwarming YA story made for book lovers, The Paper & Hearts Society by Lucy Powrie is an effortlessly fun read.

Bursting with pop culture references, from YA books to Stranger Things this book feels fresh and modern. Instagram and texts play as big a part of these characters lives as any teen today. Conversation dances about from dialogue to texts and back, the same way communication does in our lives today.

What truly makes this book special is the friendship group. These five misfits are what friend group dreams are made of. Tabby has just moved to the area, with some issues in her past she has yet to resolve. She comes across a book club poster in the library and decides to go for it. There she meets Olivia, Cassie, Henry and Ed and the story really gets going.

You know what they say about buses.

You wait and wait and then three come along at once.

This month, the same has happened with incredible books. June wasn’t lacking in great reads. I mean I read I read Daisy Jones & The Six and An American Marriage!
But I haven’t had a five star read in quite some time, and July delivered not one, but two! I was completely blown away by Dark Matter and it is now one of my favourite books I have ever read.
Then, the last book I read in July, The Heavens, came along and blew my mind all over again. I’m about to start the first book of August (Recursion) and so fingers crossed for a hat trick!

Top Six Books of 2019… So Far

We’re (over) half way through the year and so it feels like a good time to assess what I think have been the best books of 2019… so far!

I am super happy with how much I’ve been able to read this year – I feel more in love with books than ever! However, choosing favourites has never been an easy task for me. Each month there is almost always two books battling for the top spot.

Rather than be swayed by what’s been post popular, or even the ones I found most fun to read, I’ve gone for the ones that have been most memorable and meaningful to me.

So, it is time to get serious and pick my six best books of 2019!

Hello everyone, welcome to my June reads round-up! Somehow things got even busier for me than last month and so I only managed to read 8 books in June. Perhaps this will be my new normal going forward?! That said I enjoyed everything I read and even found a couple of new favourites!

Genre wise I was mostly drawn to contemporary literary fiction, finding inspiration from the Women’s Prize Shortlist.
