So Spring 2020 will be forever synonymous with COVID, and the turning to comforts to get us through. For me, I delved into some fun YA books and was very grateful that I still had the Harry Potter audiobooks to provide some stability and familiarity each day.
Here’s a round-up of the 13 books I read during these turbulent months. It may not be many, but I am proud I was able to keep drudging through no matter what.
As the nights grew darker, so did my reading. I love this time of year, as the air grows crisper and the trees burst into colour. November is my birthday month and marks the beginning of the winter months ahead.
And yet I often find that as the days plunge into darkness, so does my head. My motivation levels drop, and I instead seek the comforts of warm blankets and comfort food.
My reading levels slowed to a crawl, matching my energy levels, and yet I found a lot of fulfilment in taking my time. Savouring every word, rather than chasing chapters…
A new job, a new home, and a new favourite book
August was literally life-changing for me. I started a new job and moved house within weeks and my life has changed beyond recognition. With all these changes, my blog and bookstagram suffered from a bit of neglect. But now I’m (mostly) unpacked I can start to get back to ‘normal’!
Despite everything going on in my personal life, I still managed to keep reading at the same old pace. I read on buses and trains… whenever I could. Which really helped me retain a sense of ‘normalcy’ amongst all the craziness.
Anyways, I could prattle on for ages, but instead let’s take a look at what I managed to read in August 2019. Including a new favourite!

You wait and wait and then three come along at once.
This month, the same has happened with incredible books. June wasn’t lacking in great reads. I mean I read I read Daisy Jones & The Six and An American Marriage!
But I haven’t had a five star read in quite some time, and July delivered not one, but two! I was completely blown away by Dark Matter and it is now one of my favourite books I have ever read.
Then, the last book I read in July, The Heavens, came along and blew my mind all over again. I’m about to start the first book of August (Recursion) and so fingers crossed for a hat trick!

Hello everyone, welcome to my June reads round-up! Somehow things got even busier for me than last month and so I only managed to read 8 books in June. Perhaps this will be my new normal going forward?! That said I enjoyed everything I read and even found a couple of new favourites!
Genre wise I was mostly drawn to contemporary literary fiction, finding inspiration from the Women’s Prize Shortlist.
