So Spring 2020 will be forever synonymous with COVID, and the turning to comforts to get us through. For me, I delved into some fun YA books and was very grateful that I still had the Harry Potter audiobooks to provide some stability and familiarity each day.
Here’s a round-up of the 13 books I read during these turbulent months. It may not be many, but I am proud I was able to keep drudging through no matter what.
For the first time, audiobooks made up half of my reading this month. I became obsessed with Stephen Fry’s readings of Harry Potter and raced through book 2, 3 and 4 this month, which was a refreshing nostalgia trip I highly recommend. Has it been a while since you reread Harry Potter? Get to it! You may be as surprised as I was, in just how truly good it still is.
Meanwhile, for physical books, I got stuck into some YA and read an exciting ARC. So, a pretty successful reading month… perhaps inspired by the cold and dreary month of January?!
A world where instead of becoming President, George Washington was made king. How would present day America look with a royal family? And how do the family cope with all that royalty has to offer them?
American Royals by Katherine McGee explores this fun premise with the predictably you expect, but still keeps its sense of fun.

A heartwarming YA story made for book lovers, The Paper & Hearts Society by Lucy Powrie is an effortlessly fun read.
Bursting with pop culture references, from YA books to Stranger Things this book feels fresh and modern. Instagram and texts play as big a part of these characters lives as any teen today. Conversation dances about from dialogue to texts and back, the same way communication does in our lives today.
What truly makes this book special is the friendship group. These five misfits are what friend group dreams are made of. Tabby has just moved to the area, with some issues in her past she has yet to resolve. She comes across a book club poster in the library and decides to go for it. There she meets Olivia, Cassie, Henry and Ed and the story really gets going.

You know what they say about buses.
You wait and wait and then three come along at once.
This month, the same has happened with incredible books. June wasn’t lacking in great reads. I mean I read I read Daisy Jones & The Six and An American Marriage!
But I haven’t had a five star read in quite some time, and July delivered not one, but two! I was completely blown away by Dark Matter and it is now one of my favourite books I have ever read.
Then, the last book I read in July, The Heavens, came along and blew my mind all over again. I’m about to start the first book of August (Recursion) and so fingers crossed for a hat trick!
