My Mad Fat Diary
I don’t think I’ve ever emotionally connected with a show as much as I have My Mad Fat Diary. I completely related to Rae and her struggles with self-esteem and adolescence. Set in the 1990s, this is a total nostalgia fest! With a fantastic friendship group and some cute romance, this is an emotional heart-breaker of a show.

What We Do In The Shadows
If you’ve fan of an awkward sit-com, then this is a good one for you. If you’ve seen the movie (which you absolutely should if you somehow missed it), then you’ll know what’s in store. The show follows a group of vampires set in present day America. The juxtaposition of centuries old supernatural creatures and the modern world is rife for comedy – and it doesn’t disappoint.

Travelers
Travelers is one of the best sci-fi shows on Netflix. Heck, it’s one of the best shows on there, full stop. Welcome to the 21st. Century, that is. As a group of ‘travelers’ from the future arrive to prevent future disasters. The only problem is, the only way they can ‘travel’ to the present day is by taking over ‘host’ bodies. This complicates things somewhat, and their personal lives get complicated as they try to keep their real identities a secret.

Altered Carbon
This is glorious steam-punk sci-fi at it’s best. Can you tell I quite like sci-fi?! This one has a similar theme of people taking over other peoples bodies, but in a completely different way this time, I promise! The world of Altered Carbon is rich and an absolute visual feast. The plot is clever, keeping the audience on its toes, with some phenomenal acting and fun twists. With a second season on the horizon, catch up now.

Jamestown
This is everything you want from a period drama and more. As someone from the UK, I really didn’t know much about American history until this show. As you see in the trailer, men were shipped over to ‘found’ colonies, and it wasn’t until many years later that women come to join them. The story begins as these women turn Jamestown upside down. Expect action, politics and romance!

Lovesick
A thoroughly British rom-com, Lovesick follows university best friends through the years as they navigate life. There’s a slow burn romance which is one of the sweetest I’ve ever seen on screen. And it is laugh out loud funny!

Years & Years
This drama recently aired on the BBC and I’ve been thinking about it non-stop ever since! Starring incredible actors such as Emma Thompson and from the creative genius that is Russell T Davies it was always going to be good television. But Years & Years is truly something great. This takes dystopian drama to a frighteningly new level as it follows society as it is today and then jumps forward 5 years, and then another 5 etc, as the world descends into absolute chaos. It is genuinely scary at times as it feels close to home, but the emotional heart is well and truly there as it is with any Davies drama. This is mainly due to the acting of the family the show centres around, following each of them as they navigate the increasingly crazy future. Many times I ended up crying, and by the last episode I was full on sobbing.
Mindhunter
Season 2 is released very soon, so catch up now with this incredible drama. If you’re a fan of true crime documentaries this will defintitely be up your street. Set in 1977, Jonathan Groff works for the FBI in researching serial killers. Under the name of psychology he begins interviewing and studying them like no one has done before. Could he potentially stop a new killer before it goes serial?

Deutschland 83
Another period German drama for you this week, this time in a political genre. This really gets across the east and west Berlin situation of the 1980s, and the cold war spying is seriously clever and fun to watch.

Maniac
This is one crazy mind-bending drama that is almost impossible to explain. Thinking back on my binge of Maniac is like trying to remember a hallucination! But it goes to new levels of insane genius, and is gorgeous to look at. Plus it stars Emma Stone and Jonah Hill on absolute fire.
