If you’re planning a trip to Dublin, bookshops are a must for any literature lovers. My recent trip to Dublin may have been short, but it was jam-packed with book-related adventures! You can read all about where I visited in my last post.
There are many bookshops to see and shop in all across Ireland, and the capital city has got many treasures to choose from. I’ve listed the top bookshops in Dublin which I prioritised during my visit, but I’m sure there are countless others! Please do recommend any others you think are worth visiting in the comments.
Ulysses
First stop was Duke Street, where Ulysses Rare Books can be found. It has a lovely storefront, with a tantalising range of rare and antique books to look through.
Upfront it has a wide variety of books, the only issue being they are all well out of my price range.
There were some more ‘affordable’ books located downstairs, but nothing that grabbed me.
If you want to buy a book then Ulysses is only really for serious book collectors and/or those with some cash to splash! But for the rest of us, it is still an aesthetic treat and worth a quick stop if you’re in the area.
Hodges Figgis
Around the corner from Ulysses you can find Hodges Figgis. Now a Waterstones it is Ireland’s oldest bookshop, having opened in 1768. It may be a part Waterstones but the building still retains a strong sense of history and it is packed full of a variety of literature, including an Irish section.
Chapters
Chapters is one of my favourite bookshops in Dublin and I could easily spend hours in there! It feels endless, as it stretches across two floors, stuffed full of every book imaginable for excellent prices! Chapters is Ireland’s largest independent bookstore and also has loads of DVDs and CDs to browse through too!
The Winding Stair
Next up, The Winding Stair, which has to be the prettiest of all the bookshops in Dublin! Not only that but it has very reasonable prices of new and second-hand books and a gorgeous bookish vibe to get lost in.
Easons
Lastly, you’ll probably spot these all over Dublin, and likely wherever you go all over Ireland! Easons are basically the Irish WHSmith and so are packed with books and cheap prices! Always worth a look in case of a bargain!
